Safeguarding

“The manager and staff demonstrate a good understanding of their duty to keep children safe. They can discuss the signs and symptoms that could indicate a child is at risk of harm. They have a clear knowledge of the procedures to follow if they have concerns about the welfare of a child.”

Ofsted Inspection Report, 2023

The wellbeing of your little ones is our number one priority. Here are some of the steps we take to ensure that our children are safe, and the Preschool & Kids Club is secure:

Site Safety

Westwood Preschool is in the grounds of Westwood First School. In the interests of safeguarding all children, we will be very prompt with the opening and closing times of the gates that provide access to preschool.

Morning drop off

GATES OPEN: 8.40am

DOORS OPEN: 8.50am

GATE CLOSED: 9.10am

Midday drop off/pick up

GATE OPEN: 12 noon

GATE CLOSED: 12.05pm

Afternoon pick up

GATES OPEN: 3.10pm

DOORS CLOSED: 3.20pm

GATE CLOSED: 3.40pm

Breakfast Kid’s Club

Drop off from 7.30am using the buzzer by the car park gate

After School Kid’s Club

Pick up before 6pm using the buzzer by the car park gate

Preschool parents/Carers must use the long driveway at the beginning and end of the day.

For a lunch time collection/drop off, the gate opposite the zebra crossing will be used.

Safeguarding children

Westwood Preschool has a duty under the law to help safeguard children against suspected or actual ‘significant harm’.

Our strong partnerships with children and their families helps us to be aware of any concerns that may emerge, meaning we can offer support, including referral, to appropriate agencies, when necessary, to help families in difficulty.

Our Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSL) is Rachel Wright, Preschool Manager

“Staff carry out daily checks both indoors and outdoors to ensure that children play in a safe and secure environment. Children learn how to keep themselves safe when crossing the road when they are visited by a crossing patrol person.”
