Our curriculum is all about stimulating the inquisitive minds of our children.
We put them at the heart of every decision we make, so that they can flourish and reach their full potential.
"Children are confident and develop good social skills. They form friendships and happily play together for long periods of time."
Ofsted Inspection Report, 2023
We adapt our curriculum to each child, to build on what they know, and what we hope they can achieve during their time at preschool.
Ofsted were particularly impressed with our encouragement of:
Imaginative skills
Fine motor development
Learning about the natural world
Growing vocabulary
Outdoor play and physical skills
Communication & conversation skills
Singing & story time
Learning about our diverse world
We create opportunities for both indoor and outdoor play, with a balance of structured adult-directed activities and child-led play.
We have access to the grounds of Westwood First School.
Our secure open play area is clean, well-equipped and jam-packed with fun activities to encourage social, gross-motor, and imaginative play.
Our curriculum follows all the requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework, and we are Ofsted registered.
We adapt it to make our own, keeping it fun, engaging, and never moving away from our ethos of being your child’s home from home.
Our highly skilled and enthusiastic team are led by qualified Early Years practitioners, ensuring that our curriculum is regularly reviewed and in line with up-to-date research.
“There is always a variety of activities happening each day and information about the EYFS was shared with us when he started.”
Preschool Parent
At Westwood Preschool we use a key person approach, meaning that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible.
Your child's key person will work with you to make sure that what we are providing is right for your child's particular needs and interests. This person will also be responsible for planning your child’s learning and assessing their development.
Your child’s key person will be based on the attachments your child makes within their first few weeks at preschool. You will be allocated a named staff member during the settling in period to support you and your child. This person will be available should you require anything.

"Children develop warm and trusting relationships with their key person and staff."
