We understand that your child starting in a new childcare setting can be an anxious time.
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from parents new to our preschool. If you have questions that haven’t been answered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Preschool Parent
We offer all children free settling in visits, including parent & child open play sessions, before they start with us at preschool. If you have registered your child with us and have a start date, you will be contacted with details.
There’s also the option for your child to have staggered start, for example, starting with a half-day rather than a full day. If you feel they would benefit from this, please speak to Rachel or Kate.
Aprons are provided for the children during messy activities; however, we would suggest that children do not attend in any best clothing.
Clothing that is easy for children to manage will help them to develop their independence. Velcro fastening shoes also simplify this task. Please make sure that coats, hats, wellies, and any other clothing likely to be removed during the day are labelled with your child’s name.
Children are welcome to bring comfort items to preschool; however, we ask that toys are not brought in as these can cause upset and arguments. Please ensure that dummies come in a named box that is kept in the child’s bag.
We can help with the application of suncream, but we have a lot of little bodies to look after! It’s always best to ensure that your child is well-covered before their arrival.
Please make sure that bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
And don’t forget hats! Sun hats are essential in the sunshine, and bring warm hats, gloves, coats and wellies for winter so we can enjoy a snowball fight!
Please don’t worry if your child isn’t toilet trained yet. We provide nappies and wipes, or you can supply your own, and our staff are all proficient in changing nappies as required.
Yes! If you wish to come on site to nurse, we can provide you with a private calm space to breastfeed. Alternatively, you can provide us with bottled formula and/or breastmilk.
Please provide us with the necessary information when you contact us and when you complete the registration forms. We will work with you to ensure that our preschool is a safe and inclusive environment for your child.
We have a key worker scheme. This means that each child can foster relationships with our staff and pick the team member with whom they have formed the strongest bond to be their key worker. The key worker will work with you to ensure that your child feels confident, secure and happy at preschool.
Our staff are all very well trained and used to dealing with some big emotions, especially at the start of term, so please don’t worry. It’s all in a day’s work for us! We find that children usually settle quickly once they get into the routine of the day. We give lots of cuddles and reassurance to support your child as they adjust.
Many parents find that attending preschool is wonderful for helping their children to develop language skills.
Should your child be showing signs of a language delay, we will put support in place for them. We can support a referral to Speech and Language Therapy services if necessary.
